The story of Anna (16) takes place on Åland Island in 1666, just as the most widespread and systematic witch hunts in Scandinavian history were beginning. To Anna’s misfortune, she falls intensely in love with her friend Rakel’s husband Elias, but his infatuation with her quickly fades. This is the beginning of her lonely battle, a desperate attempt to right her wrongdoing.
Saara Cantell a director and screenwriter. She has written and directed numerous short films as well as seven feature films – Unna & Nuuk (2006), the award-winning features Heartbeats (2010) and The Stars Above (2012) and recent box-office hits The Two and Only (2013) and Jill and Joy (2014). Cantell was voted Finland’s best film director in 2010, and she was also awarded a State Film Arts Prize jointly with the cinematographer Marita Hällfors. Her film Heartbeats received 7 nominations at the Jussi Awards, plus a nomination for a best director.
